The French and Indian War was fought in the years 1754 to 1763. This war was fought by the United Kingdom and its colonies against the French and its Native American Allies. During this war, George Washington fought as a Colonel in the Virginia Regiment on the side of the United Kingdom.

Both.

It's really only in the US that this term is used. In the rest of the world, it's generally regarded as just that portion of the Seven Years' War that took place in North America.

(American) Indian tribes fought on both sides (even, in some cases, with different bands of the same tribe fighting on opposite sides). In general, the Iroquois Confederacy and a few other tribes (including, when they weren't fighting the British on their own behalf in the Anglo-Cherokee War, the Cherokee) supported the British, and most of the northern tribes other than the Six Tribes of the Iroquois supported the French, who were their primary trading partners.
