The ancient Egyptians used the cubit, about 0.5 metre Actually they used a wheel to measure around the side of the pyramids. Why? This is because they knew that if they used rope to measure it would shrink or expand due to the weather; they did not use wood to measure because it was not readily available. if you divide one side of the side of the pyramid by pie you will almost get a whole number.
The ancient Egyptians placed the Pyramids where they were (on the west side of the Nile River) because they believed that the sun setting in the west was a symbol of life's end. They also built life giving temples (birthplaces) in the east as a symbol of life's beginning.
The west because ancient Egyptians believed that as the sun sets in the West it is a symbol of life's end, therefore tombs and mausoleums are built in the West, whereas life-giving temples are in the East.on the west side of the Nile

No one knows the exact answer. Even with the technology we have today, it would take around twice as long to make the pyramids in the time they did. Some suggest that the Egyptians made them themselves, using a long, board walk (for lack of a better word) that wrapped around the pyramid as the lay bricks on. This would be performed by ( for a 2D model, although it is the same concept) laying, let's say five bricks down, then four, then three, etc. This would be very difficult though, since each brick lay about 7 tons. Another theory is that the Egyptians built a small pyramid, then built on top of that, and on top of that, etc. The last theory some have is that they were helped by extra-terrestrials, but in my opinion, that is ridiculous.
