Jerusalem is where Islam's third most holy site, The Mosque of Al-Aqsa, is located. For Jews, Jerusalem is important because it is the site of their holiest place, the temple mount. For Christians it is important because Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the dead in Jerusalem. Muslims, Jews and Christians all come to Jerusalem on pilgrimages to see it.
Jerusalem. This is the same place Jews and Muslims go as all 3 religions see this city as their "Holy City"
This question may be based on an incorrect assumption, namely that Jews believe in the city of Jerusalem as that expression ("belief") is typically understood. Jews worship the One God and nothing else. They do not worship or bow down to any physical place. Jews have special reverence for the city of Jerusalem because of its importance to them, but this does not constitute place-worship. (In Shinto practice, for example, Mount Fuji was actually believed to have supernatural powers and to be able to cause better fortunes if one prayed to it. This is completely outside of the bounds of Judaism and would be decried as heresy.) For information on why Jerusalem is important for Jews, please see the Related Question below.
Jerusalem was the city of prophets, of the holy Temple, and the dynasty of King David. For the importance of Jerusalem for Judaism, see: Jerusalem in Judaism
On the contrary, the Romans destroyed the Jewish Temple, sacked the city of Jerusalem, and banned the Jews from entering that area. See also:More about the Romans and Jews
It might be nice to know what city you're talking about. Assuming it's Jerusalem, please see the Related Question.
Type your answer here... If you go to Israel today, you can see the Valley of Hinnom, it's right there. It's south and west of Jerusalem, down off the plateau where Jerusalem sits. Originally when the Jews got into idolatry, that's where they set up their high places to worship Baal and Molech. It was a place of perversity and blasphemy and idolatry. It was called Toffit and Toffit, according to many of the lexicons means a place of spitting out, or a place of vomiting, a place of abhorrence. And some indicate it could be connected to words that mean a place of burning.
Jews do not worship any specific country or land. They worship God. However, Jews believe that God promised them the Land of Israel which is currently part of the State of Israel, the Palestinian Territories and extends a little bit into Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.
Jerusalem has many points of religious interest for Jews, and Jews typically visit Jerusalem to visit them. The number one location of religious significance in Judaism is "Har HaBayit" (Mountain of the House), referring to the Holy Temple (i.e. "House of God") that stood there between 957 BCE - 586 BCE and then again between 516 BCE - 70 CE. It ceased to exist both times after being destroyed (see the Wikipedia article on "Temple in Jerusalem"). Jewish tradition is of the opinion that a third temple will be built once more in the times of the Messiah, and as such, the location has never lost holiness. Although the Temple has been destroyed, the western wall of the outermost encirclement on the mountain still exists, and millions of Jews, observant and non-observant, visit this as the holiest place that currently exists.
It isn't technically. But it is nice to see where it all took place.
Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel, like how Washington D.C. is America's capital. Jerusalem has been attacked many, many times over the centuries, even being burned to the ground several times! The Arabs hate the Jews, and Jerusalem is on the top of their bombing list, as they believe that the more Jews they kill, the better their chances of getting the Jew's land, which just won't happen, for some odd reason. ANSWER: Jerusalem has a long History. It was first captured by David from the Jebusites and turned into the capital of Israel. The Jews built their Temple to G-D within its walls. As this was the Only Temple for Jews Jerusalem became a focal point for all spiritual matters for the Jews. To Christians it is an important site as Jesus was crucified outside its walls and later ascended to heaven in Jerusalem, so you can see why it is a holy site to them. To Muslims, The prophet Mohammed also ascended to heaven within its walls, hence the dome of the Rock, Jerusalem is known as "Al Quds" to Muslims. Though it is not regarded as Holy as other Muslim sites. The Jews have always longed for Israel and Jerusalem. For two thousand years after their eviction from Israel they have every year uttered the prayer, "Next year in Jerusalem" Also when a Jewish couple Marry part of the liturgy is for the Groom to say, "If I forget thee O Jerusalem may my right hand lose its Cunning" For Jews, Jerusalem is their spiritual and cultural Capital, part of their ancient temple still stands and they prayer at this wall 24 hours a day.
Yes, they do. See the related question on why that might be.
