Christians pray forforgiveness they might have had a bad start in life because they may not have followed Gods 10 commandments but now they want to change so they ask God for furtiveness of their past. To learn more about God, people might not know about God and want to learn more. One way to do this is to go on a pilgrimage because there is so much going on that you cant go away having not learned anything. To show their love for God. People might want to thank God for something, maybe he has done a miracle in their family or has helped them through a hard time or maybe they just want to show him how much they appreciate him always being there for them. Some might be sick or ill and want help getting better, they might have got an illness that is incurable and want to ask God to help but people might also just want help through hard times. A pilgrimage is a great place to go if you want any of these things, so if ever you get the chance then you should take it. A good pilgrimage to go to is Lourdes which was when a girl called Bernadette saw visions of Mary. You also do not have to be catholic to go on pilgrimages as some people think. you can be whatever religion you like!!!!! P.S -
because it is a religious duty...... they must go at least once a year....
They went on pilgrimages to make sure that God would send them to heaven instead of hell.
Historically, pilgrimages were undertaken by people from various social classes, not just the wealthy. While it is true that wealthier individuals could afford more comfortable journeys, many poorer pilgrims also embarked on these spiritual journeys, often facing significant hardships. Religious devotion and the desire for spiritual fulfillment motivated people across the socio-economic spectrum to participate in pilgrimages. Thus, pilgrimages were accessible to a broader range of society, albeit with varying experiences based on one's financial means.
No. A pilgrimage is for anyone. Pilgrims go to special places. Some places are associated with sick people, like Lourdes, but some pilgrimages can be to special places that don't have a particular association with the sick, like Rome or Bethlehem. Even for places like Lourdes, most of the people who go on pilgrimages there are not seriously ill.
No, some people still go on personal pilgrimages. There are some churches who go to places as a group because it represents the major holy place for their religion. Muslims go to Mecca as a pilgrimage.
Jesus Christ was born there. The Bible says that Jesus (God's Son) became a man to be born of a virgin and eventually, die for the sins of the world. His birth took place in a stable, in Bethlehem. (See the first 4 books of the New Testament) It's like wanting to see where the plot of your favorite non-fiction story played out. Also, Christians don't go on "pilgrimages". Pilgrimages are a Muslim tradition. Muslims are required to take Pilgrimages throughout their lifetime. Christians take trips to biblically historical places by choice.
