The full size broncos came with larger v8 engines and the Bronco II was designed during the first gas panic as a Fuel saver. While they only get 22mpg, on the highway it was almost double what the full size broncos got in mileage, except for the 4.9 I6, which could get 20mpg in the fullsize. In addition, the bronco ii was based off of the ford ranger, while the ford bronco was based off of the ford f150.
