Wire size calculations and breaker sizing are based on the motors amperage. If the amperage is not known the electrical code book rating are used by electricians. The book states that a three phase 30 HP motor draws 80 amps. An 80 amp motor needs a conductor rated at 100 amps. A #3 copper conductor with an insulation factor of 75 or 90 degrees C is rated at 100 and 115 amps respectively. Non time delay fuses rated at 225 amps, time delay fused rated at 125 amps or a breaker rated at 200 amps. These figures can probably be reduced if the actual motors amperage rating is used in the calculation.

What size wire for 240 volt 1 phase compressor?

If you have to ask here, you shouldn't be trying to wire in a 20A compressor. You will require a special circuit for the voltage and current with an independent breaker. Check your local code for the wire size or talk to a qualified electrician.

What size wire and breaker for a 240 volt single phase 20 kw electric furnace rated at 83.3 amps?

AWG #3 copper.

How do you wire a 277 to 120 volt transformer?

The voltage 277 volts is a three phase line to neutral voltage of a 480 volt system. What is needed for the protection of the transformer is a two pole breaker from the 480 volt CDP (Central Distribution Panel). The breaker will be sized to the KVA of the transformer. The wire will be sized to the breaker plus 25%. The electrical code requires that on motor and transformer feeders, they be sized to 125% of the total current capacity of the equipment.

How is a 15 amp 277 volt lighting circuit wired at the panel?

The voltage of 277 volts is the wye voltage of a three phase 480 volt distribution. In the 480 volt CDP (Central Distribution Panel), you will need a 600 volt rated single pole 15 amp breaker installed in the CDP. The load will be connected to the output terminal of the breaker and the other conductor will be connected to the neutral bus in the CDP. The minimum size conductor for the 15 amp circuit will be a #12 copper conductor.

How do you add a 240 volt receptacle to 100 amp supply?

The 240 volt receptacle has to have an amperage rating. It is this rating that governs the wire size and breaker size to feed the circuit. The new two pole breaker will be inserted in the 100 amp distribution if space is available and connected to the new wiring that terminates at the new receptacle.

What size breaker for a 208 volt single phase motor that pulls 1.4 amps?

208 volts is not a common single phase voltage but you could just size your breaker to the capabilities of the conductor. 208 is normally a phase to phase voltage <<>> Many 230 volt motors can be connected to lower voltage supplies. These motors can be connected to supplies of 208 and 200 volts. The code requirement is that the 230 volt full load amperage of the motor be increased by 10% and 15% respectively for wire sizing and breaker selection. To answer the question you will need a two pole 15 amp breaker.

How do you convert 277v to 120v for an outlet?

i think you just have to change the breaker from a 277 to a 120. 277 breakers are usually a 2 pole breaker and 120 is a single pole breaker. NO. 277v is not two poles, it is one pole, one single pole breaker in a 480 volt 3 phase system (typically). If you want 120 volts from a 277 volt source you need a step down transformer 277 volt to 120 volt , or 480/277 to 120/208 .

What size breaker for a 1500 watt 120 volt heater?

Can you use 220 Volt 3 Phase as 208 Volt 3 Phase?

Yes by using a 3-phase transformer. The size depends on how much power has to be converted.

What is the Largest amperage single phase 120 volt breaker made?

6000amps <<>> The above answer must have big lugs to accommodate 6000 amp capacity wire. In my breaker catalogue the largest 120 volt single pole breaker is 70 amps, 277 volt single pole is 150 amps and 347 volt single pole is 100 amps. The 120 volt single pole breaker occupies two opposed slots because of its length.

What size circuit breaker for a 208 volt 3 -phase 8 ton air conditioner?

Look for directions on the air-conditioning device and you will see how many amperes it spends. I believe that is 10 A on average.

How can I connect a single-phase - 2 hot wires plus ground- 220V load to a 3-pole 220V breaker?

Common usage of a three pole breaker is for use on a three phase distribution panel. Single phase distribution panels only use two pole breakers for a 240 volt load.Remember that the breaker must protect the conductors that connect to the load. If you want to try and use a three pole breaker in a single phase panel just because you have the breaker, this is not a good idea even if it will fit.Purchase the proper single phase two pole breaker to match the wire size and the amperage of the connected 240 volt load. Keep in mind that connected 240 volt motor loads have to be sized to 250% of the motor's full load amperage.By doing what you want to do and a fault occurs from this type of installation your insurance company might not cover the damage that it would cause. If the distribution panel is three phase then just connect the two load wires to any two of the three poles on the breaker.

How is a 208 volt 3 phase electrical sub-panel wired?

Mark the phases red (phase) black (phase) and blue (phase) along with a white (neutral) and a ground (wire size depends on the main breaker amperage) the phases attach to the main breaker unless it is a breakerless panel attach the phases to the lugs on the bus bars top or bottom then connect the neutral to the neutral bus and the ground to the panel
