A 1.5 Horse Power pump should be more than enough. You could actually use a much smaller pump, however, Circulation is the absolute most important factor in keeping your pool clean and clear. Contact TritonUnderwater.com with any other questions we can help you with.

NO SOLAR 1HP WITH SOLAR 1.5 USE A STA-RITE DURA GLAS ! your pool pump guy in longwood fl. The above answer could be far off if they did not consider certain factors with your particular pool. They made a blanket statement as to horse power. There are many factors to weigh in on determining the hp pump required for any given pool. If this is an above ground pool with flex corrigated hose that is typically less than 1.5" inside diameter - you run the risk of blowing the connections off their seats with the over powering pump. On the other end - the suction side of the pump - you could in fact collapes the hoses. And not knowing the length of run from the pump to the pool or what size the filter is - are also major factors in sizing a pool pump to the pool. There are a lot of hydraulic equasions to factor in when matching a pump to pool. Even assuming that you have an inground pool with rigid PVC Plumbing and taking into consideration the new generation of pump (within the last 8 to 10 yrs) you should not have to go higher than .5 or .75 hp pump. You will get the flow rates you need with the smaller pumps than that which is put out by the larger pump. In fact you may get less flow rate with the bigger pumps. Those pumps are designed to have flow rates associated with 2" & 3" plumbing. Also, if you have a heater on the system - it too has a maximum flow rate associated with it.

The minimum hp for this size pool is 3/4 hp. A 1 hp would be the best bet.
