official site for Briggs and Stratton Spark Plugs is: http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/routine_maintenance/choosing_spark_plugs/ The proper spark plug will depend on the type of 6.5 HP motor that you have. Briggs and Stratton made several different ones and the best way to get the proper plug will be to call an authorized Briggs and Stratton repair shop with the mower make and model numbers.
Champion RC-12YC at 0.030"
Champion RC12YC or E3 Diamond Fire E3.20
If it an opposed twin, then an RJ19LM. If it is a V-Twin, then an RC12YC. Either gapped at 0.028 - 0.030"
If it is a 3.5 hp I usually use a j-8 or equivalent seems to work well in them. hope this helps
Most Briggs and Stratton (B&S) engines of that size can have the spark plug gapped to 0.030" What I truly recommend is that you visit the Briggs and Stratton web site and download the engine owner's manual. You will need the Model Number, Type Number and maybe the Date Code. This information will be used to obtain the appropriate Owner's Manual. You can also obtain the IPL (Illustrated Parts List) for your particular engine. The web site is www.briggsandstratton.com - and you can take a look around for the manuals.
Rc12yc
It is usually a Champion plug RJ19LM. The gap is .030 inches. This plug is usually used with B&S engines from 3hp - 6hp.
A Briggs & Stratton engine usually costs anywhere from about $170 to $1600. The cost of the engine will depend on its size and its features. A mid-range cost for this type of engine is about $400.
Spark plug setting should be at .31
