Wow, good question....I see tattooists who have a three parts to their field of endevour....I call these ART, CRAFT, and MEDICAL.

ART, if you are not an artist to begin with, then you better be craftsman enough to make a decent tracing....All you need to know to have ART is Lighting, Direction and Balance, unless of course if yer gonna take it home it must match the couch But you can still be a good commercial tattoist, just limited to the flash drawings in the shop..

CRAFT, here you need to be a little mechanically inclined so that in the middle of a tattoo when your machine quits, you'll know what's wrong and be able to fix it.... As well as a whole buncha other stuff...

MEDICAL, you MUST have up to date knowledge of Blood bourne pathogens, why certain skin does this or that, and what to do in those cases.

And it dont hurt to have a touch of the KARNY in ya, if ya want to be the flamboyant type of tattooist that gets all the notice.........

Still think ya wanna be a tattooist?

How much would it cost to go to a tattoo artist?

It depends how big the tattoo you are wanting to get is. Small tattoos probably range from $75-$100, and bigger tattoos from $300+. Any tattoo artist can give you an estimate for free if you bring in a picture of what you want.

Do you have any recourse if you think tattoo has not been done correctly?

I don't think there is much you can do aside from bringing the issue to their attention, having it covered up and you could take it to court, but you'd have a very difficult time getting what you wanted. Don't go to the same tattoo artist and spend the money for the best!!! I am sure if you go to a good tattoo artist they can figure a way out of fixing the mess you have. Good tattoo artists are suppose to take their time with their client and go over what the client wants in design and either draw out that design (example: someone wants their dog's head put on their arm.) It appears the tattoo (I won't say artist) didn't know what they were doing (many of them don't) so it's well worth the money to go to someone that is known for good work and hygienically clean surroundings (including the needle and fresh inks of course.)

Is zinc oxide bad for tattoos?
