Librarians, as they are called, must know their alphabet, of course. They organize books according to the way wanted of the manager. They check out and in books, repair books, order books and catalogs, and sell books. Some libraries have a computer section, a children's section for reading, or magazines to pick through. They may even have books for sale, too! There is no actual education needed, except patience, knowledge of organization, and alphabet skills.
