Use carb cleaner and a wire brush.
It usually is a carbon build up. take off egr valve, use a scraper or wire wheel to clean it, same with manifold, don't use chemicals on the valve itself, but I guess you could use brake cleaner on the port of the engine if you can't scrape it out. get a dremel tool with the long flex extension, put on a wire wheel and clean it out like that
Remove the egr valve from the tracker. The valve can be soaked with carburetor cleaner, to loosen stuck material, Wipe out loose build up, then wash with carburetor and allow to air dry. Re install the now cleaned valve.
THE EGR VALVE CAN BE FOUND IF YOU REMOVE THE INJET. COVER YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IT LOOKS LIKE A MUSHROOM. BYT MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE EGR TUBE ALSO. Answer : EGR is mounted behind the throttle body with a metal exhaust tube ( use lubricant to loosen rust) and vacuum line on top. Check DPFE as well, rec replace controls egr valve. replace if code said excessive egr flow.
how to clean egr valvegood question. i have a 96 lumina and am suspectful of the egr valve in mine. i read that you can at least check to see if it is stuck open/closed. how you do this i don't know. i removed what i think is my egr valve and havent tried to take it apart. i did find star bit screw on the component that i can push in without any effort (there is obviously a spring inside cuz it pushes back out) . I'm thinking that this is a good sign also cleaning out the hoses that work with the egr valve should be part of the procedure.i could use help on this too.
Yes. To thin, and to clean up, you will have to use a solvent.
Removal Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. Disconnect the breather pipe. Remove the air cleaner. Fully loosen the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve to exhaust manifold tube nut from the bottom of the EGR valve. Disconnect the vacuum line from the top of the EGR valve. Remove the EGR valve. Remove and discard the EGR valve gasket. Installation NOTE: Use a new EGR valve gasket when installing the EGR valve. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
P0401 indicates problems with EGR system... It might a simple one, for instance, you just need to clean EGR pipe and valve. Or it can be more expansive one like faulty EGR valve or EGR sensor. Which one you have impossible to answer without testing the car. And you can use the professional Toyota tool to repair it, I think the Toyota it2 is a good tool for it.
It is a 50 EGR Valve. You can use it for '93-'97 Dodge Dakota, Ram 1500, 2500, or Jeep.
Once the EGR is remove it can be soaked in carburetor cleaner being careful not to expose the wiring to the cleaner. Use a small stiff Bristol brush to loosen the carbon build up.
Through the 90's, all SC2 engines were mostly interchangeable. There was a difference in the head, requiring the use of a different EGR valve. If the replacement engine does not use the same EGR valve, it is possible to create an adapter to use the older style EGR valve.
If you have looked for the EGR valve and cannot find one you may not have one, you may have an emission package that does not use the EGR valve. I would suggest getting it looked at to see if your car has this package.
