During the interment of the Japanese, comfort aid was scarce. Internees were given an army cot, blankets and an electric stove. The internees were also fed three meals a day, and had all the professionals, including the pharmacists, doctors, dentists, and other professionals one might expect to find in a small town. Accepting their situation, the Japanese Americans used much of their own money to beautify, and make the camps look as attractive as they could.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered various forms of humanitarian aid and comfort to be given to the groups interned during World War II. This included providing basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medical care to the interned individuals. The government also established recreation facilities, educational programs, and opportunities for employment within the internment camps to help alleviate some of the hardships faced by those held there. Additionally, efforts were made to allow family members to stay together and maintain contact with their loved ones outside the camps.
