You have to remember that a ghost is simply the disembodied spirit of a person. Therefore a ghost can make any sound a person is capable of e.g howling, moaning, wailing, talking, screaming, crying, sighing, etc.
In stories, especially childrens stories, the traditional sound/word would be "Boooo".

And i think lots of people say that ghost are sick of loud noises don't scream though that wont scare them away. When i get freaked out i play the loudest lowest notes on my piano. If you have a recorder or instrument use that! Play as loud as you can on the instrument. Ghost are afraid and sick of sound. (i think)
