Ahmedabad is a city, a city can be a capital but can not contain one. Capitals are contained within countries or provinces/states. Ahmedabad is a city in India (the country) and Gujarat (a state in India) but while it is the largest city in Gujarat and was once the capital of Gujarat, it is no longer the state capital. The capital of Gujarat is now Gandhinagar.
