That would depend on your starting point and the selected route. At a minimum you would drive through Pennsylvania and Ohio. You could miss them both by traveling through Canada.
Michigan, Indiana & Illinois.
You would have to drive through: Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Or drive across the bridge in Sault Saint Marie into Ontario and follow the water to Windsor, then cross the bridge/tunnel into Detroit.
Not counting Washington and Arizona, you would pass through Oregon and Nevada.
British Columbia, Canada
South Dakota and North Dakota would be the two states you would have to travel through in order to get to Canada from Nebraska directly north.
Would you pass or go through? To drive from Texas to Southern California, you typically drive through New Mexico, Arizona. If you're going to Northern California, You might have to drive through Nevada and/or Utah and/or Colorado, depending on the road.
From Florida to Texas via the shortest route - you would pass through... Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
