A basting stitch.
A temporary stitch is called a baste. This is a long length stitch (5.0 setting on a sewing machine) that is easy to remove once a permanent stitch is in place.
To temporarily bind two fabrics together without a sewing method, stick on velcro, Duct Tape, and fabric glue are all alternatives.
It is called a basting stitch. On some machines this is mearly a very long stich on other machines you use a foot with a vertical piece of metal in the middle. When this foot is used the zigzag goes over the raised part and this leaves "tailor tacks", raised threads that can be snipped off to remove the stitches.

A temporary stitch would be a basting stitch. These are simple straight stitches approximately 5mm or 1/4" long. This also makes the thread easy to remove. See related links for image/s.
A tack stitch, a baste stitch, or a chainstitch can be used for that.

To sew stuff
Some machines offer a serger stitch; check the manual to see if yours does. The stitch is basically just a zigzag stitch, so it's like a real serging stitch's pathetic, more time consuming cousin. I use it for simple things if I have to, but my advice would be not to rely on it for any large project.
how to sew a straight stitch with a singer 413
A whip stitch in crochet means to thread a yarn needle with yarn and "sew" essentially. For instance, if you make an applique such as a truck, and wish to put it onto a blanket, you would thread your yarn needle with matching yarn, begin underneath, and stitch it to the blanket as you would sew a patch onto a pair of jeans. It also means to sew two peices together-as in if you have two straight edges like two granny squares to make an afghan, to stitch the two together.

The easiest way to sew pajamas is to use a pattern. First, cut out the pieces that the pattern provides to you in the right sizes. Second, pin together the pieces according to the instructions. Third, sew the pieces together in the order that the pattern tells you too. Good luck!
