You have to have a freon leak detector. Are you can put freon dye in the system and find a leak that way.
Call your local store to find out.
A 1999 uses R134A for the air conditioning system. This is the "new" stuff that you can find at any parts store.
You can find a Freon leak in a home Ac unit by using a leak detector. These instruments are capable of detecting trace amounts of Freon and pinpoint leaks.
You can find reviews for the Chevy Cobalt online at the Edmunds website. Alternatively, you can also find reviews for this vehicle at the Car and Driver website.
I had a 1994, and the cans you buy in the store will not fit it, and most small shops don't have the adapter. So you can either find a shop that has the adapter, which I was told will cost extra, or try to find a auto parts store that sales the adapter.
to install freon in your 98 lumina you will need to purchase the freon (r134a) and a hose kit from your local parts store. from there, locate the low pressure side of your ac system, usually by the radiator, but sometimes next to the condenser. The hose will only fit on one, so if it doesnt fit on the first you find, find the other. Then, with the car running and the ac on full punture the can and allow freon to enter the system.. That's it! THE 98 WOULD USE R34 AND CAN BE FOUND AT SOME OF THE AUTO PARTS STORES. THEY ALSO SELL A ADAPTER TO SCREW ONTO THE INLET OR SUCTION SIDE OF THE SYSTEM. INSTROCTIONS COME WITH THE FREON
There are UV leak detection kits you can purchase at all most any automotive store which have UV dyes, lights and glasses that will help you locate a leak.
It originally came with Freon (R12). Unless it has been converted then it will still contains R12. I suggest you have it converted to R134a, as Freon is so very expensive and hard to find.
