But, if that isn't your style then the most economical house to heat will be a steel frame house in brick or stone with double or triple glazed insulated windows and brand new weather stripping. In floor radiant heat or radiators will be a lot more efficient than a heat pump and you want to be certain that the attic is very well insulated. If there is a fireplace be sure to keep the damper closed and if there are ceiling fans be sure to leave them on year round. In the winter have them spin backwards if the draft bothers you. They will keep the air temperature more even which helps the thermostat out. Also, set the thermostat and leave it at the same temp. night and day for the whole season. Hope this helps!
