Almost any undergraduate major is acceptable. Traditional areas for those who plan to attend law school are political science and criminal justice majors, but it may also be advantagous to have a background in science or engineering. The skills you build studying in those areas translate well in the law school setting, and leaves open the option to practice intellectual property law, environmental law, and in other areas.

One special area that should not be ignored is business, as so much of the call for legal skills is in the business arena. This can lead to a career in corporate law, Mergers and Acquisitions, and a host of other areas.

A great deal depends on what you intend to do with your law degree. You will be writing and speaking constantly, so courses that require you to perfect writing skills are a good idea. Hone your vocabulary, and use it well.

Choosing a major other than political science or criminal justice also helps to differentiate you from other applicants, as does selecting majors that are seen as challenging. Among equally considered programs, selecting one at which you excel will help to keep your GPA high and thus improve your admissions chances, but lower GPAs among hard science majors are typically understood and expected by admissions committees.

To get into Law School in England and Wales in the UK - you should have either a BA Law degree or An LLB law degree. At law school you will study to become a solicitor. It is also possible to get into Law School if you have another type of degree and have completed a 1 year conversion course known as the CPE - the common professional Examination.
