In Motion tablets and HP tablets there is a detachable keyboard. the keyboard usually will have two prongs on either side at the top of the keyboard that stabilize it and hold it secure. there is also a connector in the center that transfers the data from the keyboard to the tablet.

I suspect Tablet PCs are named after tablets of stone - a sheet of flat stone which was engraved with writing. Both are single, flat sheets - unlike laptops which have a keyboard which folds over the screen. Tablet PCs are always touchscreens, and so don't need a keyboard.
A tablet PC is much more adaptable, as says its name. With the tablet PC you can remove the screen from the keyboard, far more portable and convenient, or alternatively leave it attached to the keyboard for a standard laptop computer.
Clearly the ipad style has dominated the market, but if you run a search for tablet PCs, you can find one or two with the keyboard intact. It might cost you more money, but maybe that is ok for you.
