In the War of 1812, the USA intended to capture Canada and add it to USA territory. Many US politicians claimed that conquering Canada would be "as easy as marching," meaning that all US troops had to do was show up at the border and Canada would surrender without a fight. Were they ever wrong!
Canada did not wait for the US troops to arrive. Instead, although being outnumbered many times over, Canada took the offensive and captured several American strongholds, often without a fight. Canada's brilliant military strategist, Sir Isaac Brock, repelled every US attempt to invade Canada, inflicting heavy losses on the American while incurring only minor ones on the Canadian side.
Sir Isaac Brock died a hero during the Battle of Queenston Heights.
