The next eclipse of the sun you'll be able to see in California is going to be May 20, 2012.
Late that spring afternoon, all of northern California north of a line from Punta Delgada
to Lake Tahoe will be directly in the path of an annular eclipse of the sun. All the rest
of the state sees a deep partial eclipse.
This will be a "welders glasses" eclipse. It does not become night in the daytime, but
the moon will move completely across the sun, leaving a thin, fiery ring (or "annulus"
in Latin, hence the "annular" eclipse) lasting for over five minutes.
There will be other solar eclipses before then, but none is visible in California. For instance,
in the late evening of Wednesday February 6th, an annular eclipse passes over parts of
west Antarctica. Since it happens around 8 p.m. Pacific Time, you can't see any of this
solar eclipse. The only inhabited parts of the world in its path are New Zealand and the
southeastern corner of Australia, which see a partial eclipse of the sun in the late
afternoon of February 7th (west of the International Date Line).
"Next" is a moving target; today is June 3, 2011. The next visible lunar eclipse in CA will be December 10, 2011. The eclipse itself will be total, but not for us here in California; the Moon will set just as the eclipse is getting to be total. People in Hawaii, Japan, eastern China and Australia will have the best view.
2012 and 2013 will be a total washout for lunar eclipses; a few partials, and several penumbral eclipses that you would need special instruments to detect.

On May 20, 2012, August 21, 2017 and on April 8, 2024 there will be partial solar eclipses visible in California. The 5/20/2012 eclipse is annular over far northern California and Nevada. The 8/21/2017 and 4/8/2024 eclipses are total, but the path of totality won't cross California, and so you would see them as partial eclipses.
There will not be a total solar eclipse visible in southern California for the rest of the century.
On May 3, 2106 there will be a total solar eclipse with a path of totality that passes directly over San Luis Obispo and crosses between Fresno and Bakersfield.
the last lunar eclipse in California was a long time ago.
May 20, 2012; an annular solar eclipse will cross northern California to Nevada and into northwestern Texas.
