The "code of best friends" says that you ask your best friend if he/she minds if you are interested in their ex boy/girlfriend. If they say no, they don't mind, your free to go ahead. If they say yes, they do mind, then you should not go any farther - not if you want to keep them as your best friend. As a side note, I have personally found it harder to find a good best friend than a boyfriend. Best friends can be for life. A boyfriend, especially when your young, often are not. Good luck!
