If there is a STRONG fishy odor coming from the crab it means that he is dead.
if it smells its dead if it doesnt its not. it usaull comes out at night because they are nocturnal.plus hermit crabs are oderless so if they smell they are dead
When a Land Hermit Crab dies it starts going limp in it's shell and falls out, a sleeping one is locked in the shell with an extra pair of legs. But if it is REALLY dead, it smells like rotting fish...
Smell the tank, if it smells like a dead fish, then a hermie is dead :(:(
it depends how big the hermit crab is or the fish bowl
A crab that lives in the shells of other shell fish is called a hermit crab.
Actually it doesn't take very long for a hermit crab to smell when it's dead. They will not smell if they just died. About 10-15 mins they will start to smell. You have to put the hermit crab up to your nose in order to smell the rotten fish smell.
They cannot live with a land hermit crab because land hermit crabs live out of water so the fish would die (as you know) if it is out of water.
Fish.
The skin covering are called the exoskeletons because they are invertabrates. Hermit crabs Molt so they store up food and distilled water and bury themself underground, it can take weeks to months. If you think your hermit crab is dead do NOT dig them up if your tank smells like dead fish then it is dead. they also need to eat their old ekoskeleton (i know it's gross) because it have all the vitamins it will need for a while still give it food.
If it smells dead fish and/or it came from unhygenic water then no, if it aint then yes.
Hermit Crabs live in sea water. Guppies are freshwater fish and will not be able to live in with hermit crabs. The crabs would no doubt eat whatever dead fish you give them.
