Nothing. Maybe you just didn't have enough activities together and you grew apart, but now he or she wants to strengthen your friendship. Maybe the friend was trying to make other friends but then realized you were just the best friend in the world.

It's a tricky situation, but one where I've been in her position. My guess is not that she regrets liking you, but regrets telling you because she doesn't want to wreck things.
