You should be able to get the tool from your local Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Pepboys, or any other local car parts store.

How do you change the rear struts on a 1999 olds intrigue?

You'll need a coil spring compressor. Jack up the rear end. Remove rear tire. Open the rear trunk - remove rubber cover / locate the "three" mounting bolts to the assemby. Remove lower mounting bolt on strut. Remove strut assembly -caution ... it's under a lot of pressure from the coil spring. Remove the OLD strut from the assembly. To replace the new strut, you'll need to compress the coil spring as much as possible. Re-assemble the strut to the mounting hardware. Push the "three bolt" assembly through the trunk mount and tighten. Re-attach the lower mounting bolt to the strut. Be advised "under a lot of pressure from the coil spring." Is a serious understatement. You need a special tool to compress this strut and attempting to disassemble strut without the tool locking it in could result in SERIOUS injury or even death.

How do you replace the rear shocks on a 2000 infiniti i30?

you will need to rent a strut spring compressor tool from your local auto parts store, first locate the top of your strut on the inside of your trunk, there should be three nuts located at the top of the strut..one on the strut itself and two on each side...second pull the tire off the side that your working... third compress the strut spring with the tool, then with a adjustable wrench hold the top of your strut, while unscrewing the nut on top with a (13mm or 14mm ) wrench...forth locate the bolt on the bottom of the strut remove it(16mm or 17mm)and the strut will come down....remove the old strut and replace with new one...re-install

How much does it cost to replace struts on a Toyota?

If you have the tool to compress the rings of the strut assembly, it really only takes about 25minutes to do the whole job per side and will cost you the price of the new shock absorbers which are about $90 each

How do you change coil springs on 1992 1995 Honda civic?

<Important Note> Changing coil springs can be dangerous even with the proper tools. Raise and support your Civic. Remove wheel. Open hood or trunk. Remove any brake lines that are attached to the shock/strut assembly. Remove the 2 upper shock/strut nuts. <Important Note>DO NOT remove the center nut on shock/strut assembly as this will release the coil spring from the assembly. The result will be that the spring(which is still under pressure) can (and usually will) come flying out with a huge amount of force. Remove the lower shock/strut nut and bolt. Remove the shock/strut assembly from your Civic. <Important Note>You will now need a spring compressor tool which can be rented from your local retail auto parts store. When the coil spring is compressed, remove the center nut on your shock/strut assembly. Now you can safely remove the coil spring. Installation is the reverse of disassembly. <NOTE> These instructions only apply to OEM shocks/struts.

How do you replace front struts on a 1998 neon?

Just did them the other day. You have to take the brakes off. Them un screw the two nuts that connect the struts to the brake assembly etc. Then under the hood unscrew the 3 nuts. Then it should fall right out. Make sure you take the brake line off the struts, dont want to break it. If you have the whole assembly that should work. But if you just have the strut and not the spring you have to get spring clamps to compress the spring down then take the nuts off of the top of the strut. You have to hold the top nut so you can spin the bigger one below. That may take a special tool, or some talent.

How do change struts on 1972 super beetle?

Jack up the car. Remove the entire strut assembly - spring and shock cartridge - on both sides. Buy new shock cartridges. Take the strut assemblies and the new cartridges to a Midas Muffler shop or somewhere that's got a spring compressing machine. They'll change the cartridges for you safely, and cheaper than buying the tool you need to do this. Then go home and reinstall the strut assemblies.

How do you change the struts on a 2002 Chevy Prizm?

You need a special strut spring compression tool. Very very difficult to do it by yourself, unless you have this tool. Getting the struts off is not too hard, putting the new strut in is the hard part.

How do you change the rear shocks on a 1988 mercury topaz?

This is a strut suspension. You have to remove the complete strut. Then you will need a spring compressor to release the coil spring. From there the shock can be changed. It would be cheaper to take the car to someone and have it done as the tool's needed will cost you.

How do you replace a strut on a rendezvous?

Rent a spring compressor from your local auto parts store. This is usually only a deposit that is returned when you return the tool in good condition. Jack the car and place on jack stand or jack stands. Do not place the jack stands under the A-frame. Place the jack stands under the body so that all of the tension in the springs can be relieved. (this cannot be done if they are supporting the weight of the vehicle) Remove the wheel. Break but do not remove the two very large nuts and bolts holding the strud in place. Hint: you will unscrew the nut not the bolt. The bolt has splines and is not designed to turn. Please do not turn the bolt!! Turn only the nuts. After the nuts are slightly loosened compress the springs. This will be with two part spring compressors. Kinda like a J hook on each end and the spring will compress as you tighten the compressor. Install the second part of the spring compressor and alternate tighting each side until the spring is compressed a small amount. You will not have to compress the spring the entire amount on the vehicle. You will only need to remove the tension in the spring caused by the A-frame at the end of it travel. With a little compression (maybe an inch or so) you can safely remove the strut and spring assembly. After the spring has been compressed about an inch or so you can remove the two large nuts holding the strut in place on the bottom. The bolts can be tapped or knocked out with a hammer. The bolts are splined so they have to be pushed out with a press or tapped out with a hammer. Ope the hood and use a 13mm rachet wrench to remove the three nuts holding the strut into the strut tower. These three nuts are the only thing holding the strut in place. Do not let the strut fall and break the brake line or rubbler cv boot cover. Take the strut assembly to your workbench continue to compress the springs until the tension is relieved from the strut. In other words you do not want the extended strut to cause tension on the springs. You want the springs to carry all of the pressure on the springs. Once you are sure that you have the springs are sufficiently compressed by the spring clamps you will have to remove the single nut from the top of the strut. Remember how the parts fit back together. We are talking about less than 5 parts but remember how the go together while you are taking them apart. After you remove the strut nut then replace with the new strut and reverse the procedures to install. Trick: I used a 10mm 1/4" drive socket and socket wrench with extension to hold the shaft of the strut while using a large socket and pipe wrench to hold the large nut. The extension will comfortably fit through the hold on a 1/2" drive socket and the pipe wrench easily keeps the large socket from turning while you unscrew the shaft with the 10mm socket and wrench. There is probably a tool for this but I did not have one and this worked beautifully for me. Also the strut assembly will only install one way. the three screws only fit one way. Good Luck All! The second shock should be completed in approximately an hour or so. The time to do the first depends upon your existing skills as a mechanic
