What size are the rear caliper pins on a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan?
BRAKE CALIPER PINSYou have to drive the pins out using a hammer and punch. The newer pins have a spring collar on them to hold them in the caliper.oldtimervolvosRus
caliper bolts are the two bolts that hold a brake caliper to the caliper mounting bracket. On both the front and rear of the vehicle (unless has rear drum brakes) the bolts have rubber boots around them working as slide pins.
Front caliper mounting bracket bolts torque to 57ft-lbs Front caliper pin bolts torque to 27ft.lbs Rear Caliper mounting bracket bolts torque to 38ft-lbs Rear caliper pins torque to 15ft-lbs
Take the caliper to a machine shop and have the broken bolt removed or just replace the caliper. If you do not understand the bolt sizing, you are not equipped to retap the caliper.
you can get the tool that removes the rear calipers from any autozone or advance auto parts. they rent it to you and you leave a deposit. the tool is designed to turn the caliper as it is being pushed in. if this tool is not used the caliper will fail.
Your rear brake is rubbing on the disk because it is worn out. Your others are probably close to worn out. Soon you might not have any brakes. Then you will step on the brakes and not have any. Hit something cheap when that happens. -------------- Please check the sliders...on rear disc brake systems the calipers must be free to slide on steel pins. Over time the pins seize and the caliper sticks or binds on the pins. When that happens the caliper will not return to its normal position and will cause the brake pads to drag on the rotor.
HI I just replaced the rear calipers on my 99 wj which is the same as the 2002 model. Jack up the rear wheel, put in a 3 ton jack stand. 1 Loosen up the caliper brake hose fitting with a 14 mm scoket 2 Get a 45T torque star wench bit and insert in from the rear caliper pins and loosen 3 remove the calipers pins 4 loosen the caliper brake line hoise and remove , replace the copper gaskets - should come with reman calipers 5 hadn tighten the brake hose line 6 put in new pads if needed / new brake braket if needed 7 grease and hand tighten the caliper pins 8 using torque wrench tighten the caipler pins to 25 ft lbs / brake line hose bolt to 23 ft lbs. 9 replace wheel test drive.
DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE THIS , BUT, A SPECIAL TOOL IS REQUIRED TO TURN THE CALIPER BRAKE PISTON BACK INTO THE CALIPER TO ALLOW REMOVAL OF THE PADS THIS IS FOR REAR BRAKES ONLY , THIS SET UP IS PART OF THE PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR THIS VEHICLE. Yes there is a special tool but you can get away with a c clamp it will turn as it goes in The only way to remove the brakes is to remove the entire caliper if the pins are stuck you would have to heat them up. Remember to put caliper grease on pins when reinstalling them .
Rear caliper to rear caliper bracket bolts, 32 ft. lbs.
The rear pads are similar to a late model volvo. Jack up and remove the rear wheels. With a large spike nail or small drift pin remove the two horizontal pins the go thru the caliper and brake pads. With a plier grab the brake pad, wiggle and pull out of the rear of the caliper. Insert the new pads, install drip pins and you ar done. You may need to insert and prior the old pads against the caliper to push the piston back for more space to insert the new pads.
A stuck caliper piston. Stuck caliper slide pins. Pinched brake line/hose. Frozen/stuck parking brake cable/mechanism.
