Yes, provided you have the necessary tools and know-how to do it.
what tools u need to change a wheel bearing on a vw jetta 2003 jetta diesel
Unless you have access to a press or bearing removal tools this is not the job for at home. The bearing is pressed into the hub. You need to remove the spindle, press out the old and press in the new.
Labor rates and markup costs will vary depending on where you have the work done. Labor varies anywhere between $50-$100+/hour. The parts are relatively inexpensive (under$30 in most cases), if you have the tools, or a friend with tools and know-how, you will save alot.
I you are a good mechanic, and have all the right tools, about 3 hours.
Bearing needs to be pressed old out and new pressed in. Cost about $40 to have it removed from auto shop. But you can install it by chilling (freezer) the replacement bearing overnight and then heat the hub (200 oven don't want to melt the inner bearing seal) and drive the new bearing in with a soft hammer or wood block. Don't forget the bearing seals innerfirst before the bearing and then outer after bearing is in. Best to remove hub and do it on a bench.
Very, very, very hard. You need all of the necessary tools to remove the steering knuckle and the right size press to press out the old bearing and install the new one.
You can replace the front bearing on 2003 Citroen Relay using air tools.
the bearing is one non-dissasemblable unit, it has to be pressed out and in. best done by someone who has the right tools.
Due to the special tools and expertise required to press the hub and bearing from the steering knuckle, this job should be left to a professional mechanic. However the steering knuckle and hub may be removed and the assembly taken to an automotive machine shop or qualified repair facility.
Replacing front wheel bearings on a front-wheel drive vehicle requires a good knowledge of vehicle service. Normally, you do not need special tools, but there is a special procedure for removing and re-torquing an axle spindle nut. Never reuse a spindle nut!!!! The bearing will be a unitized one-piece bearing, and the brake rotor is not part of the bearing. It can be removed after removing the brake caliper.
The rear bearings are in the brake drum hub. When you take off the brake drum, you have to remove the large nut, then a washer, and there is the outer bearing. When the drum is off, pop off the rear seal, and there is the inner bearing. Check the race for the bearing, make sure it is good. If so, then you can just replace the bearings and the rear seal. If the race does not look good, then this is a much harder job to do. If you do not have the tools and know how for this, I do suggest you take the drums to a garage, and have them change the race. This will save you a lot of frustration, believe me. Pack the drum with wheel bearing grease, with a new seal, and do not over load with the grease.
