ATF+4 is required. Any other types can and will cause shifting issues.

A Dodge Neon use DOT3 brake fluid.
Rubber plug on drivers side of trans. Near axle.

If it is leaking trans fluid into the coolant it can cause overheating.
A 1999 Dodge Neon uses ATF+4 Type 9602
ATF+4 transmission fluid.
Manual trans YES...Auto, NO... 2005 has NGC (Next Generation Computer)... Find a 3.94 trans out of a 98-2001 R/T or ACR Neon... those are the best... 3.55 are decent, but geared for driving, and use of hydrolic clutch.
A transmission fluid change is recommended every 100,000 miles on a Dodge Neon. The filter should also be replaced at this time for maximum longevity.
