The silverado did not have a 5.3 liter engine in 96. The available V8 engines were 5.0, 5.7, and 7.4. But if you correctly typed the year it is likely the 4L60E, or three speed with overdrive, electronically shifted. (four total forward gears) if you have the 5.3 and you mistyped the year I am unsure. (quite possibly the same but there are a variety) ps, if you were going from cubic inches to liters they are as follows: 5.0 = 305 5.7 = 350 7.4 = 454
As an ex Chevy Mechanic I'm almost positive the answer is "it will fit". 4L60E transmissions if I remember correctly.
4L60E / 4L65E transmission.
no

The 5.3 liter Vortec Engine on the 2000 Chevy Silverado has a tapered crank shaft. The crank pulley has no woodruff key, is not indexed and is pressed on.
I own a 93 Chevy Silverado K1500 4x4 with V8 350 TBI 5.7L. so unless Chevy has changed their blocks, i would suggest that naturally your block is a SB 350. However, since your question was about horsepower, not which block you have, I will tell you the horsepower. The 1998 Vortec 5.7 liter makes 255 horsepower.

Should be a 700R4 Trans.
The 4.9 vortec means that it is a 4.9 liter v8 probably.
No, the LS2 is an all aluminum 6.0 liter engine. The 5.3L engine in the 2000 Silverado is an LM7 version of the Vortec 5300.
About 290 hp.
Yes.
