Basicly any General Motors transmission except Chevy will interchange. May need to change drive shaft for length and diameter of the yoke that goes in the transmission, but as far as bolting to the motor and the cross member, it's anything goes.

The 3.0 liter is not as interchangeable as the 4.0 liter. The 4.0 liter is interchangeable with the a4ld from the bronco 2 2.8 and 2.9's. The 4r55e and 5r55e's also all interchange with minor wiring differences.

Due to the computer system on the 95 truck, the 4L60E is the ONLY transmission that can be installed in that year. There are other transmissions that will bolt up but the engine will not run right and the transmissions will NOT shift.
One of the main differences between the 2, is that the input shaft is a smaller diameter for the 2.3 than the 5.0 engine. With the correct size pilot bearing installed into the end of the crankshaft, the transmissions will interchange. The main thing to remember is that the 2.3 liter transmission has a lower torque rating than the 5.0 liter transmission. If driven without harsh punishment, the 2.3 liter transmission will live behind a stock 5.0 liter.
