Basicly any General Motors transmission except Chevy will interchange. May need to change drive shaft for length and diameter of the yoke that goes in the transmission, but as far as bolting to the motor and the cross member, it's anything goes.

One of the main differences between the 2, is that the input shaft is a smaller diameter for the 2.3 than the 5.0 engine. With the correct size pilot bearing installed into the end of the crankshaft, the transmissions will interchange. The main thing to remember is that the 2.3 liter transmission has a lower torque rating than the 5.0 liter transmission. If driven without harsh punishment, the 2.3 liter transmission will live behind a stock 5.0 liter.
