There was no official treaty that ended the American Civil War but rather a succession of surrenders by the Confederates and their army. The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812 between Great Britain and the United States.

There was never a treaty, because there had never been a declaration of war.

Lincoln could not declare war on the Confederacy without recognising it as a sovereign nation.

So technically, the war had no beginning and no end.

The surrender of Lee at Appomattox is taken as the notional ending of hostilities, though it was only an armistice on the Virginia front.

Officially, the US Civil War ended on Palm Sunday, 9 April 1865 at 3:00pm, when General Lee signed the surrender at Appomatox Courthouse in Virginia
