They had to defeat the Japanese Military. They also wanted to occupy Japan to help them become a democratic style government. They also had to resolve the issues of Japan's needs for all kinds of Natural Resources and oil. They needed to free POWs and get the Japanese to get out of China.

∙ 9y agoThe Pacific Command is in charge of the United States territories, Japan, Alaska, and Hawaii. As a central point, the DOF has Hawaii to coordinate the exercises that keep the troops trained at all times for situations of war and disaster rescue. The goal is to have troops trained and in place. You have to understand that troops have to be moved around when their time is up. This takes time and planning. The Navy plays an important part in this. The 7th Fleet's Area of Responsibility encompasses more than 48 million square miles from the Kuril Islands in the north to the Antarctic in the south.
