Both the USA and Russia publicly condemned the attacks by France, Britain and Israel to re-open the Canal. - Anyone with a shred of cynicism might wonder at this condemnation by two countries whose various actions had done much to cause the crisis in the first place.
Many nations, including the USSR and the United States condemned the attacks on Egypt in 1956. The Soviets denounced the attacks to the extent of threatening to intervene with military force on behalf of Egypt. US President Eisenhower's stand against the attacks outraged both France and Britain. Finally via UN action there, military action against Egypt ceased.
