He wanted living space (lLebensraum) for the German people, to use Poland resources (things like wheat) and at the time Poland had a large population of Jewish people living there, about 3.3 million. His final solution was to rid the world of Jews, which is why the majority of death camps were in Poland. After the war, around 300,000 Jews were left in Poland.
He invaded Poland
Hitler wanted Danzig, which would give him access to the Baltic Sea through Poland. Hitler wanted to build a rail system through Poland into Germany, but Poland refused. Upon Polish refusal, Hitler looked toward Russia for an alliance because if Germany invaded Poland, Hitler did not want a two front war. On August 23, 1939 the Nazi-Soviet Pact was signed which was a complete shock to everyone. No one thought Hitler who was anti-Communist would forge and alliance with Communist Russia. The Nazi-Soviet Pact was essentially a non-aggression pact between the two countries.
In 1938, Hitler promised not to invade Poland, then in 1939, he did, and World War Two began.

Two reasons; 1. Poland was an allie of the United nations; attacking Poland would officaily start a war. 2. Russia was on the other side of Poland; Hitler did not have the resources to attack Russia and if he did it would lead to his downfall.
