Two things are cilia and flagella.
the bacteria and virus can easily enter into the cell.this make the cell to damage
They are not holes. They are membrane proteins.

balls that help the cell
carbohydrates are also taking part in the formation of cell membrane. it is often in the form of oligosaccharides (3- 10 sugar molecules) . it is attached to integral or peripheral proteins or to lipids forming the cell membrane. it is acting as cell marker, helps in cell - cell interaction, guiding the hormones to its receptor. it is seen only in the outer aspect of cell membrane and you cannot find it on the cytoplasmic side of cell membrane. blood group antigens are differing in their carbohydrate content. lectins are used to find out the presence of saccharides on the surface. changes in its structure is seen in cancerous cells . Malligai
The importance of the cell membrane is to keep the bad things out and keep the good things in.Bad things would be harmful to the cell.Good things would help the cell.
proteins form channels and pumps that help to move material across the cell membrane. carbohydrates act like chemical identification cards, allowing individual cells to identify one another.
Protein channels help move particles across the cell membrane
They help control what enters and leaves the cells.

The cell membrane forms a boundary between the inside and outside of the cell. It is very flexible.
The Cell Membrane helps the plant cell by guarding any viruses that come near it.
The cell membrane on an animal cell is the outermost layer and acts as a protection shield. It is selectively permeable meaning it only lets certain things into the cytoplasm of the cell. The nucleus does not have a cell membrane, it simply directs the cells activities. In a plant cell there is a cell wall on the outside of the cell membrane giving the cell support and protection, but the cell membrane still provides the same function as it does on the animal cell.
