The VIN on the dash will tell you everything you need to know. Engines dont have VIN's. They have casting numbers. Such as "Block Casting Number" or a "Head Casting Number" or a certain/specialized part number. But on old cars this maybe different and I stand corrected.^^This is correct, even for old cars. The block or head casting numbers will tell you the "type" of vehicle the engine was designed for but not the specific VIN is was installed in.Some blocks have numbers for destined for "crate" which means it was not installed in a vehicle, but used as a replacement motor. For US engines, the block number will usually narrow your search down to a 5-10 year block and the type, such as truck or car. Special vehicles, like Corvettes and such, will have specific numbers (because they used aluminum and high performance parts) so the search will narrow down further.
The 8th digit is the engine type.
It depends on which type of engine you're referring to; The VEGE serial number plate replaces the original engine number, and would normally be found in the same location as the original engine number. The plate will be silver in colour, with the VEGE logo, VEGE Code (part number, 4 digits), engine type, and six-digit serial number.
3998993 is from 72 or 73 307 or 350. 75 cc chambers.
It’s a 6L90E 6 speed GM automatic.
What do you mean by engine number? If you mean the engine ID number that forged on to the block, you will have to contact Ford or refer to Chilton's. If you are talking about the engine type as in type 3 or type P, for proper replacement parts, then you must look at the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) , if that is what you are looking for then the 8th digit or letter on the VIN is the type you have. Every number or letter in the VIN means something.
