I had a split in the coolant hose that goes to the turbo. It sits down behind the engine and next to the firewall. It was very expensive to replace the hose and labor intensive because of how difficult it was to get to it..

Limp home mode is just as it sounds. It goes to a preset load of values to allow the car to get you "limp" home or to the repair service. All engine and transmission performace is reduced. There is no such thing as a "turbo limp module".
Coolant level goes down and there are no external leaks. Worst case is a blown head gasket. Check oil to see if it is cloudy (milky) - that is a sign of contamination from coolant.
