However, it wasn't decimalised until 1971, so at the time of WW1 there were 240 pennies in a pound. other coins in order of value were a farthing (quarter of a penny), halfpenny, penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling, florin, half-crown and crown. There were also 10 shilling notes, one pound notes and five pound notes.
