THe mbile charger takes a.c (alternating current) from power source and convers it to d.c(direct current) and feds it to mobile battery.

Some chargers use a transformer whereas newer ones use switch mode technology. The switch mode ones feel very light, compared to a heavy transformer.
The current is induced in a secondary coil in the transformer, which also provides electrical isolation from the mains supply.
