...igloos mostly, we also ride our polar bears to school and enjoy taking long snow shoe hikes through the beautiful tundras of the north while we watch the glow of the northern lights. ;)

Similar to the United States, there are many types of buildings in Canada. You will find office buildings, schools, restaurants, shopping centers and malls, hotels and motels, ski resorts, and more.
They vary from tar paper shacks to large mansions. Almost all of them are more substantial than houses in other countries due to a harsher climate. Canadian houses have more insulation, sometimes 12" thick walls and R-80 in the ceilings, and triple pane insulated windows. Others in the warmer parts of Canada have very little insulation and single pane windows.
The average house is changing. In some areas, such as Vancouver, most Canadians cannot afford a house. Though previous generations could afford a single family dwelling some markets are dominated by non-Canadian buyers who have much more money. For example there are more millionaires in China than there are Canadians in Canada, if they become interested in a housing market they easily outbid a working Canadian.
So more Canadians are finding they cannot afford the house of their parents or grandparents and are living in apartments or condominiums. To afford a house they often live with several generations in one house. This is very different for many Canadians.
Some of the older Canadian cultures had children leaving home at 18yrs old often with little or no support from the family. The idea of continuing to live with parents is a sign of failure as is each generation not being able to afford their own accommodation.
Canadian families are also very small compared to many outside of Canada. Two children has been considered reasonable and the large families of the past with 3 or more children are seen as unsustainable from an economic or environmental point of view .
As a result single family dwellings were designed for families of 4 or 5 people with two parents. Often with a garage for one car and a driveway to park another car. Area's around the house often include a lawn of green , a garden for flowers and sometimes vegetables or herbs though most Canadian families today have all the adults in the family working to afford a house so gardens and even green lawns are going out of fashion.
Canadians live in the same types of houses that are found all over North and South America, Europe, and many African and Asian countries. The houses and buildings tend to have good windows and insulation due to the northern climate.
today most Canadians live in normal houses (think bungalows, four walls, a roof, and LOTS of insulation, but in the past, Canadians lived in log cabins, and 'soddies' (houses built of sod). Native Americans live/lived in Tipi's (pronounced Teepee), igloos, and long houses, to name a few.
In Canada we have all types of houses from bungalos, townhouses, mansions, and just normal houses. The prices vary with the houses and there kind of different from u.s houses.
