Well ferrets are actually fairly quiet. But when they do make noises its fairly faint and the only times they really make noise is when eating or are upset.

I have had mice and rats both. Both of which did nothing more than squeak. I would assume all rodents make a similar noise, such as; guinea pigs, gerbil's, ferrets etc.

Squeaking- when a ferret gets hurt they will do this so stop whatever your doing to make sure they are OK, they will do this when they are playing but it gets out of hand then stop it but be very careful or you may get bit. Whining or Whimpering- this is when they are very hurt badly.
