10W-40 is pretty standard, if you live somewhere where it's really hot or really cold you might want something thicker or thinner, respectively. Use synthetic oil if you really want to baby it, otherwise it'll be fine.

Raise the 1999 Corolla front end. Remove the oil plug, and drain the oil into a pan. Take the oil filter off, and replace it with a new one. Put the plug back in. Lower the vehicle, and fill the engine with fresh oil.

OK, I recently change the transmission oil of my 2004 corolla. I think that it's the same process. You have to buy the Transmission Oil Filter and a strap loacated in all the edge of the door where the filter is located. The door is located down the car, but you have to be careful because you have to drain the oil first and then remove the door. Drain the rest of the oil that is there, then clean all the area, put the new filter and it's ready to add the new oil.
Resetting the oil light on a Toyota Corolla Verso is very easy to do. You just need to take the battery cables off the battery for a few minutes and then put them back on. This will reset the oil change light.
