There were 44 people, including the crew and hijackers. Every person on the plane died in the crash and you can visit a memorial in Stonycreek Township Pennsylvania that has been dedicated to the heroes of United 93.
Just under 3,000 people were killed in New York City, Arlington, Virginia and Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Sept.11, 2001. On Sept. 8, 1900, between 6,000 and 12,000 (officially 8,000) people were killed when a hurricane destroyed Galveston, Texas.

On 9-11-01, terrorists hijacked 4 planes. One plane apiece crashed into the two towers of the World Trade Center in NYC and brought them down. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and set much of it on fire. The fourth was on it's way to crash into the Capital building, or the White House, in Washington DC, but the passengers on the plane found out about the terrorists attacks, (from the cell phones), fought against the hijackers, and the plane crashed into the ground at Shankesville, Pennsylvania, killing all on board. Just under 3,000 people died on Sept. 11, 2001 from the terrorist attacks.

Three hijacked planes flew into the Pentagon and each of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. A fourth hijacked plane was forced down by its passengers before it could destroy a building. Most of the large political events of the 21st Century were a result of these attacks.
