What country did audie l Murphy serve in and what length of time?

Murphy was assigned to the 15th Infantry of the 3rd Infantry Division after the Sicilian campaign, in the summer of 1943. In September the 3rd Division was committed after the Salerno landings near Naples, Italy, for about two months. The Division was then withdrawn from the line and was part of an amphibious attack behind the German lines near Rome, at Anzio, on January 22, 1944. The Germans quickly surrounded this beachhead and the Anzio campaign lasted around four and one-half months, until sufficient strength could be built up in the beachhead to break out and capture Rome on June 4.The 3rd Division and other units from Italy then took part in the "second D-Day" landings on the southern, Mediterranean coast of France, the Riviera, on August 15, 1944. The 3rd Division was then in the US VI Corps, of the 7th Army. The 3rd Division was committed to action more or less continuously from that time until the end of the war. Murphy was wounded badly enough during his Medal of Honor exploits that he was unable to render further service. This was on January 26, 1945, still in France, during operations to reduce the Colmar Pocket. So Murphy saw about a year of actual combat, in Italy and France.
