The term "native Americans" refers to all the indigenous peoples of the North, Central and South American continents, not just the USA, and to a time-span of perhaps 20,000 years - naturally technology changed over such a long period.

Taking all of those indigenous or aboriginal people together, weapons included the atlatl (spear-thrower or dart-thrower), sling (NOT slingshot), blowgun, bows of many different forms, arrows, spears, knives, war clubs and axes.

Stone flakes or points were initially used but these were quickly replaced by metal points soon after contact with Europeans.

Blowguns are mainly a South American weapon, but some tribes in the south-west USA and in Central America also used them.

Bows ranged from very simple "self" bows (made of a single piece of wood) to elaborate composite bows using many different materials and from the very short bows of the Plains to the enormous 9-foot bows of the Wai Wai and other South American tribes.

The atlatl was used in North America until the bow was developed, but it continued in use in Central America until after European contact.
