This question isn't very specific, but here's some to think about.
The mustang has been in production since 1964 as a 1965 mustang. The very first ones are referred to by enthusiasts as 1964 1/2 mustangs.
The earliest cars came with either an inline 6 cylinder engine, a 260 inch V8 or a 289 Cubic inch high performance engine.
Early classics were available as a coupe, convertible and later a fast back. a GT option, featuring a stronger motor and other improvements was the beginning of Mustang performance.
As they got older they became heavier and although power increased steadily in the late 1960's and early 70's, emissions laws and expensive gas made for a decrease as well as heavier cars.
Ford offered the GT, a Shelby GT350 and later a GT500, with a 428 cubic inch engine.
Later cars included the Mach 1, the Boss 302 and 351 and the huge Boss 429.
Later "tuner cars" included Roush and Saleen, and were much like the early offerings by Shelby, taking stock cars and improving performance, handling, and modifying the looks as well.
well there is a lot of ford mustangs but my guess would have to be around 30 different types of mustangs
