Many types of fish are found in Norwegian waters. The common ones are
Cod. A deep water fish. Firm flesh, few bones and no fishy taste. Very versatile, can be baked, boiled, steamed, pan-fried, deep-fried in batter or minced and made into cakes.
Salmon. Much of this is smoked and exported. Or cook as cod.
Herring. Probably the biggest seller in Norway, usually raw as "sild".
Prawns. Always present at a Norwegian "cold table".
If by a port, especially on the west coast, the fish market has many other types of fish on a variable basis. Because Norwegian waters have not been over-fished as have EEC waters, the rarer (and nicer) fish such as turbot are still to be found at times.
Some types of fish have vitamin A, such as salmon. Many others do not.
There are many types of fish found in the pet shop that are not found in the Ocean, such as all the freshwater fish, they are found in lakes. There are also many types of man made hybrids and color and fin forms that are not found in the natural world. Some examples are the freshwater parrot fish, which is a hybrid, and the koi angelfish, which has different color from the wild variety.

Norway has a large coastline, which is rich on fish, exporting fish is there for one of the earliest exports Norway started with. Norwegian generally eats alot of fish... Oil, Norway has a lot of oil, but unlike most countries, Norway use very little of it. There for it's exported around the globe, making Norway one of the richest countries in the world.
