You don't mention the engine size but according to the 1999 Ford Ranger Owner Guide : The 2.5 liter four cylinder and the 3.0 liter V6 take ( Motorcraft FL-400S ) The 4.0 liter V6 engine takes the ( Motorcraft FL-1A ) engine oil filter
The 2000 Ford Ranger Owner Guide shows , for the 2.5 liter four cylinder , ( Motorcraft FL-400S ) but fordparts.com shows ( Motorcraft FL-400-S and Motorcraft FL-400-A ) for the 2.5 liter four cylinder in a 2000 Ford Ranger . I don't know what the difference is between the two filters , anybody know ?

I was looking at the Fram website and it shows the PH2 engine oil filter cross reference as the ( Motorcraft FL-820 and Motorcraft FL-820-S )
The 1996 Ford Thunderbird Owner Guide shows ( Motorcraft FL-400-A ) and the website fordparts.com shows ( Motorcraft FL-400-S ) for the 3.8 liter V6
According to the 1999 Ford explorer Owner Guide: Both the 4.0 liter EFI and SOHC - V6 engines use the ( Motorcraft FL-1A ) The 5.0 liter V8 engine uses the ( Motorcraft FL-820S )
