None in living memory would come close to the Yellowstone volcano. Yellowstone erupts roughly every 600,000 years (the last occasion being 640,000 years ago, so it's overdue!).

Estimates have suggested the next one could be 2,500 times the size of the Mt St Helen's eruption in 1980 - so keep your head down if you're unlucky enough to be in the vicinity. Then again, if Yellowstone blows like it did 2.1 million years ago it could deposit 600 cubic miles of stuff on America (compared to the 0.24 cubic miles St Helens put out). That would bury most of America metres deep and kill around tw-thirds of the population. Eventual ramifications for the world would be equally catastrophic.

An equally large Super Volcano under Lake Toba wiped out most of the human race 73,000 years ago and is said to have affected the generic inheritance of all humans today

Scientist believe the most powerful volcanic eruption occurred approximately 2 million years ago when the Yellowstone Caldera erupted. It produced an eruption 2500 times more powerful than the May 1980 Mt. St. Helens.

The two most destructive volcanoes in the past 200 years are located in Indonesia. Mt. Tambora, Indonesia killed 92,000 in April 1815. Krakatoa, Indonesia killed 36,417 in August 1883. Mt. Pelee, Martinique killed 29,025 in August 1902. Nevada del Ruiz, Colombia killed 23,000 in November 1985. Mt. Unzen, Japan killed 14,300 in 1792.

Depends on the time range you are considering. The worst eruption in recorded history could either be the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa or the 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora. Gas from Tambora eruption caused the "Year Without a Summer" of 1816, which killed tens of thousands of people. The Krakatoa eruption was smaller than the Tambora eruption, but there is a lot of uncertainty about the death toll, with some estimates placing it above the death toll of the Tambora eruption. In prehistory numerous supervolcanoes have erupted and caused global devastation.

I believe it was Yellowstone. If I remember correctly, The eruption was around 2500 times larger than the mount st. Helens eruption a few years ago. We are around 46,000 years over due for an eruption.
